Carcassonne, France

We arrived in Carcassonne, France on Sunday evening.  We checked into the hotel and then went looking for dinner.  How different things were in France.  We were so used to having restaurants open really late for dinner in Spain.  In France we were lucky to find the one that we did!  It was a bit more expensive than we normally would go for, but we did experience some fine French cuisine.

After dinner it was dark and we drove by the old castle.  The city has now expanded well beyond what it used to and so we can get beautiful views of the castle from all around the "new" city.

The next morning we made our way to the castle.  

 And it was raining--of course!

 But we stuck it out with our umbrellas.

 I liked hearing a legend about how this city got it's name.

We paid to go inside and walk around the castle and the old walls.  It was pretty cool to walk around.  Glenn loved pretending he was a knight or a prince and that I was a princess.  We also enjoyed the views from the castle into the expanded city.

Also within the old city walls was a beautiful, old cathedral.

 We got some lunch at a little cafe there--and of course some souvenirs too.  We were so tempted to buy everything at the chocolate shop! Yum!

(We actually didn't get any here.  But we did go to a patisserie outside the city walls and oh.my.goodness!  It was so delicious!  Dad and I were drooling!  Everything looked so good and everything that we bought tasted so good!  So if you ever make it to Carcassonne and want the most delicious pastry...go to this place!  I tried looking it up on google maps and I can't quite make out the name, but here's the approximate address:  236 Avenue du Général Leclerc, Carcassonne, Languedoc-Roussillon, France.
