Florence Day 5

Our last day in Florence, we went to more museums.

We started out by seeing the Medici Chapel Museum.

The lower floor had several little tombs for members of the Medici family.

Up the stairs, we entered a room called the Chapel of the Princes.

The ceiling was incredible and was well lit.

The museum had some interesting religious pieces--most of them were made out of bones.  Glenn took this picture--he was in charge of the camera for a time.  It was fun to see things from his perspective.

In the same complex, we saw this beautiful courtyard--with the dome of the Medici chapel in the background.  Inside this building we toured the library.

And then a museum with old, old books and older forms of books.  Some were from books from the Bible!

After the Medici buildings, Glenn and I went to the Leonardo da Vinci museum.

This was a perfect place for Glenn!  It was hands-on and he loved that.  He could build things and try them out.  He could learn about things that were interesting to him and it was geared toward kids.  Paul and Cheryl had gone to another church down the street, but later joined us.

Leonardo da Vinci sure was an amazing man!  He had so many talents and abilities.  He had so many great ideas that really helped mankind!

We visited one final church here in Florence--the Basilica of Santa Croce.

Several famous people are buried here and it was fun walking through it to find them.

We really liked the ceiling in this church, as well as the stained glass windows.

In the square outside the church, a man was blowing big bubbles.  There weren't many kids and so Glenn was a bit nervous to go play in them.  I told him not to worry, but to just have fun.  The man saw him and motioned for him to join him--so Glenn got to blow some huge bubbles too!

And of course he got to chase and pop them too!

We walked back to our apartment a different way than usual and got to see different views of the river and the buildings along it.  Besides the dirty streets, the buildings were beautiful.

That night for dinner we ate at a restaurant that was just around the corner of our apartment.  We had eaten there the second night in Florence and liked it so much that we wanted to eat there again.

The waiters and waitresses were all very nice to us, especially to Glenn.  They thought he was so handsome and smart.  One asked him to draw a picture for her--so he did.

I almost ate all my food before getting a picture.  It really was so good!  It had pear and asparagus in it.  I ordered it last time and this time both Cheryl and I ordered it again.  I love Italian food!

Paul tried something new this time and he really liked it too.

We were happy to have ended our time in Florence on such a good note.  I thought the food was good in Italy--Paul was slightly disappointed in some things.  We loved eating gelato every day and seeing famous works of art by famous artists here in Florence!
