Independence Day

Paul's brother, Arik and his new wife, Natasha, were in Houston for a summer internship.  They came to Austin and San Antonio for the Fourth of July weekend.

That morning we had red, white and blue pancakes--yum!

After breakfast, they headed down to San Antonio area to meet up with Aunt Bonnye's family and go tubing down a river.  We thought about going, but weren't sure.  Obviously, in the end we didn't go.  They had a good time and enjoyed the cool water on a hot day.  (They also got sunburned pretty bad, and that was something that I didn't really want to have happen to me.)
That evening we also had thought about going downtown Austin for the fireworks and all that.  But because I had started medication and would have to take it at a specific time--and it had to be refrigerated--we determined that it would be too hard to do both.
Our friends invited us to their home/neighborhood to do some fireworks and to watch the Wells Branch fireworks show.

We enjoyed delicious cupcakes and other yummy treats while playing with sparklers, throwing pop-it's, and having glow stick battles.

Another friend brought red, white and blue Popsicles to cool us off while we watched.
We had a good day, despite the change of plans and not doing the "Austin" or "Texan" thing.  We had fun with family and friends and we celebrated our great nation.
