Toronto's PATH and Aussie Meat Pies

Toronto has an underground shopping area with entrances all over the downtown area.  One day in which it was particularly cold but we wanted to get out and stretch our legs, we decided to go explore the PATH.  According to the Toronto PATH website, "The PATH has over 30 kilometres worth of shopping, services and entertainment. According to the Guinness World Records, it’s the largest underground shopping complex in the world."

Paul told us there was an entrance near us at the Hilton hotel.  So we walked there, got inside but couldn't see any indication of the PATH.  We took some elevators that we saw to a lower level, but again couldn't see any signs for the PATH.  Luckily for us there was a maintenance worker there so I asked if he knew where to find it--and if we were even close.  He started to explain it to me, then offered to just show us because he was going there for his lunch break anyway.

He was very nice and stayed with us the entire time, walking down hallways, helping us find an elevator for the stroller, carrying the stroller with me when we couldn't find one.  He was just very nice and I couldn't help but think of the stereotype of Canadians.  It seems to be true of the Canadian we have met--they just are nice people!

Once we were in the shopping areas, we just sort of explored.  There were many shops and food courts.  When we'd get to a corridor that didn't have an elevator or escalator, we'd turn around and find another way to explore.  Amazingly, we didn't get lost! ;)  

Eventually we stopped to get a quick little something to eat and drink.  We got a smoothie that sounded good on paper, but unfortunately, it had a strange after taste and it wasn't the best.  :(  But we did try some Aussie meat pies.  These were delicious, on the other hand.  There is a restaurant just down the street from us that we wanted to try, so when we saw they had a store in the PATH, we decided to try it without Paul--sorry!  Glenn got one that had bacon in it and I got the traditional Aussie.  

They were kind of like chicken pot pies, but with different meat inside.  They were good though.  I think we will go there again to try some of the different varieties, and so Paul can try them too.

So we had a good time exploring just a small portion of the PATH.  It was nice to be walking around, but out of the cold.  And yes, it's still cold here in Toronto!  One day it'll warm up... ;)
