Monday May 18 we drove the short distance from Othmar and Esther's apartment to Rhine Falls, where there are some spectacular water falls on the Rhine River.
Just as we got to the city there, we saw this stunning castle along the river and this quaint church in the city center. I loved seeing castles everywhere and little churches dotting the landscape.
Once at Rhine Falls we got out and started walking along the path around the falls. There was another castle on the other hillside--that you can see in the back of the picture behind Othmar--where we walked to.
Along the path there was a little display showing the power and energy water can generate. There was a crank and people could see how strong they were. Paul and Glenn of course had to try it out!
There were several locations to pull over and get a closer look at the falls. I loved watching Othmar teach Glenn and point things out to him.
There was a building with a water wheel as well along the path. Maybe it was like a museum or something, but we didn't go inside. They did have some information about the water falls which I found interesting.

We walked along the train bridge from one side to the other--where the castle was. They had some cows that we could sit on and take pictures--so we did.

We walked down and around, closer to the falls at the bottom of the castle. They had a little gazebo with window panes of different color. It was unique to see the falls through the different colors.

The path took us through little rock tunnels too. That was fun.
On this ledge, we were really close to the water. We could feel a lot of spray.
Down at the bottom, you could either walk back the way you came or catch a boat to the other side. They also had other little boat tours--closer to the falls, down the river, etc. We decided that the cost of 2 Swiss francs each was worth the short trip back to the other side.
The boat had this advertisement--Save beer, drink water! haha I love it!
Oh! And we saw this little vending machine that popped individual bags of popcorn. How cool!
We brought along some food for lunch, so we found a bench and ate. There was a little playground nearby, so we let Glenn play a bit. The slide was a lot of fun actually and it would send you right off the end!
At the exit of the park was this sign. I liked it.
Then we needed to head to the airport to catch a flight back to Madrid. Othmar and Esther came in with us. While looking for our terminal we ran in Jorg, who works for the airline that we were flying with. He hooked us up with some great deals! Thanks again Jorg! (Oh! Jorg was the friend-look-alike that the Webers knew from the choir fireside.)
We got a little snack at the grocery store that's attached to the airport. All 6 of us talked until it was time to go. We said a final good-bye to Othmar and Esther. One day I hope to see them again! They were absolutely wonderful and I'm so glad we met them!! Thank you Othmar and Esther! We love you!
The Zurich airport has this cool place called the Observation Deck. Jorg got us free passes so we could go out there. It was a covered playground set up with little airplanes and observation towers and all kinds of things for the kids to play on. And it had great views of the airplanes loading, taking off and landing. It was a great place! I think more airports should have them! Too bad we didn't have more time to play, but we let Glenn play as long as we could. Glenn had a lot of fun!
