Memorial Day weekend in Texas wasn't very good. We got A LOT of rain! It caused a lot of flooding throughout the state. We went down to San Antonio on Saturday to spend the day with Mark and Bonnye. We hadn't planned on spending the night, but the weather got so bad they closed down the freeway! There were tornado warnings and flooding all over. So we spent the night and left early Sunday morning. Things were looking just fine on the freeway and then all of a sudden there were cones directing us to exit. There wasn't any signs or detour arrows or anything, so I had to just follow the other cars that had gotten off. We drove through San Marcos. At first we wondered why because we hadn't seen any sign of flooding. At one traffic light just before the freeway entrance, we looked to the left and then we saw it.
There was basically a river flowing through the city. Cars and other vehicles were stuck in the water and people were going to be stranded.
We got back onto the freeway and could see more flooding below us.
We noticed that there weren't any cars coming from the opposite direction. We then noticed that the southbound freeway was completely flooded and the middle barrier was the only thing keeping the water from taking over northbound traffic too! I wanted to drive a little bit quicker to get past the flood as soon as possible.
Finally we made it back to Austin and didn't have any other problems. We did see where a tornado had taken off part of a U-Haul storage unit place in Austin.
Then on Monday, Memorial Day we got even more rain! Downtown Austin flooded and Lake Travis filled up so quickly! Glenn and I watched a time lapse of the lake filling up and it was incredible!

I got some pictures of how much water we were getting at our apartment complex. Being on the bottom level made me wonder if we were going to flood. Thankfully we weren't the low point and we didn't. But it was close.
The Saturday after the most flooding, members of The Church had been asked to help the flood victims. Paul went down to help clean up homes and any other work that needed to be done. While ripping apart a deck that had been destroyed, Paul stepped on a nail and it went through his shoe and sock and into his foot! They had a First Aid table and Paul got his foot cleaned up. He wasn't much good after that, and he somehow managed to drive home. He showed us his bloody sock and his injury. Thankfully it didn't get infected. It was kind of deep though and it hurt a lot!
We got it cleaned up some more and gave him a bandage.
During the night Glenn threw up a few times. I think he must have touched something on Paul's shoe or sock and then somehow ingested it and it made him sick. So my boys stayed home from Church to rest. Glenn was still making goofy faces and making us laugh, despite not feeling good.
Paul was laid up for a while because his foot hurt so much. Like I said, it never got infected, but it still hurt. So with all the maintenance problems happening at the same time, I had to take care of all of them. Even our garage flooded a little and I had to move our boxes and things to get them cleaned up. Paul didn't go into work for a few days, but was able to work from home. That was great, but it sure was hard for him to be in bed a lot. And when he had to get up to use the bathroom or anywhere else, he would hobble or crawl. Poor Paul!
