Cheryl came out to Spain to visit us during her Spring Break.
We were so excited to have her come!
The day she arrived--Wednesday, March 27th--she took a short nap after a long and somewhat frustrating set of flights, and then we got doners for lunch. Yum!
After that she slept again for a bit before we headed out to the Museo del Prado.
They have a free time in the evening, which was great!
Inside we saw paintings by famous artists like Goya and El Greco, Velazquez and Rembrandt, among many others. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside, but here is a sampling of the things we saw (I got these from the internet).
"Judith at the Banquet Holofernes" by Rembrandt
I was amazed at how real she looked. Her fingers looked round and even the shadows behind her fingers looked so real!
"Las Meninas" by Velazquez
Paul's favorite part about this famous painting was the dog. :D
"David Victorious Over Goliath" by Caravaggio
Glenn likes the David and Goliath story.
"The Third of May, 1808" by Goya
This one is famous because of it's importance in Spanish history.
"Queen Isabella dictating her Last Will and Testament" by Rosales
"Jacob's Dream" by Ribera
"Knight with his hand on his Chest" by El Greco
And this was by far our favorite sculpture! I don't know the name of it, but it was amazing! The veil over her face was so thin--it looked so real like we could pull it off. It is incredible what people can do with stone!
As we walked back to the metro we took these pictures.
