Madrid Rio Parque

On April 13^th we had a “Glenn day”.  Glenn had been so good to go with us wherever and whenever we wanted and we figured that he could use a day that was just for him.  We had heard about the Madrid Rio Park from a family in the ward, and we decided to check it out.  This park was created when they moved the M-30 motorway underground!  By doing this the Manzanares River flows again and over 10 kilometers of parks, pedestrian and cycling routes.  This park also had historical monuments and bridges along the river.  We took the metro to one stop near the Puente del Rey and went as far and as long as Glenn wanted. 

We didn’t take pictures of everything, but we did of the oldest bridges and Glenn and the playgrounds.  The Puente de Segovia was built in 1584, which makes it the oldest bridge in Madrid. 

The playgrounds were interspersed along the pedestrian paths.  So there was one here and one there.  And each one was unique.  They were also more natural and earthy looking.  We brought a picnic lunch and ate and just enjoyed playing and being outside on such a beautiful day!

They had some crazy swings too!  The tire swings were fun...and some of the other ones were very unique.  Glenn liked the one where all the tire swings swung into each other...it was fun to watch all the kids.

We also took some pictures of things on the surrounding buildings that made us smile.

We only made it as far as the Puente de Toledo—about halfway through the entire park.  They had some fun maze-like gardens around there.  Glenn had fun running through them and trying to figure out how to get out.  We then decided to go home.  We had been there for several hours and were tired and hot.  The weather was much warmer than it had been and we weren’t used to it yet.  But we won’t complain!  We still have more to see in that park and I think we will go again!
