Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Tuesday January 6th we made our way over to Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

We spent a good portion of the day there because we wanted to explore it and really enjoy it.  We first stopped in the Visitor's Center and took a few pictures and learned a few things about the cave.

Then we headed out to the natural entrance.  This is where people can sit in the evening and watch thousands and thousands of bats fly out in the summer.  The bats aren't there this time of year so unfortunately we missed out on that, but the cave was pretty impressive too!

The formations were all so unique and different.  Even though we walked through it for over 2 hours, we didn't tire of seeing all the cool formations that were inside.

Glenn really liked the cave feature that was called 'Popcorn'.

I really liked this one called Lion's Tail.

Paul and Glenn got dripped on.  That happened quite a lot while we were walking on the path in the Big Room.

After the self-guided tour, we had the possibility of walking back up through the natural entrance or taking the elevator.  We were tired and decided to take the elevator.  That was a ride by itself!  We climbed back to the surface pretty quickly.  Glenn was excited to learn that we had been 750 feet below ground!  How exciting!
