Saturday we called our friends, the Hubers. We had met them two years ago when we were here last, and they were really good to take care of Paul when he came on his own. They were really excited that we were here again in Spain and wanted to hang out.
We went over in the afternoon, after they had soccer games and flute recitals. We rode the metro to the bus station, and rode the 193 bus out to San Agustín del Guadalix where the Hubers live.
When we first arrived, we stopped at a doner kebab place for a late lunch-yum!
Then we walked to the Hubers house. They live really close to the bus stop, which is so nice for us. They were so excited to see us and we were so happy to see them! We got talking right away and Glenn, after being shy for a few minutes, started playing with the kids.
After some time, we decided to enjoy the sunny weather. It wasn't exactly warm, but it wasn't really cold either. We walked while the kids rode their scooters--Glenn too--up to the sports complex. We had fun playing soccer, jumping rope, throwing an foam airplane, and doing some simple gymnastics--handstands and cartwheels. We had a lot of fun!
Then the dads--Paul and Brent--played a game where they kicked the soccer ball against the wall while the kids rode their scooters back and forth. The object of the game was so not get touched by the soccer ball. Franki and I watched and made sure there weren't any injuries. :D
On our walk back to their house, we stopped at a small playground. The kids sure had a lot of fun.
Morgan. Mason. Kiaya. Kamree. Glenn.
Back at their house, we ate a few goodies and talked more. We then went out to dinner. It was in this super fancy-looking mall that was super crowded!
We ate at a place called Deewey's. It was like a Mexican place and it was really good.
We had a fun day with them and we look forward to many more fun times with them!
Our way home was quite the adventure. Brent drove us to a metro stop--saving us some time and bus tickets. We thought this specific metro stop was with Zone A, but it wasn't. :( It was in Zone B. And if you are in Zone B and want to go into Zone A--which we wanted to--you have to use another metro ticket. We didn't realize this until after we got on. We got on the metro, went one stop and then the driver told everyone to get off--they were retiring the train for the night. When we got on the next train, it went in the wrong direction--back the way we came. We were confused and thought that maybe we had done something wrong. So we got off where we had initially gotten on. We then waited for the next train and got on. But after one stop, the driver told everyone to get off. Then we realized that we had been in the wrong zone and needed to go through the ticket thing again to continue going in the direction we needed. Paul went through just fine, and when I tried to put Glenn's ticket through, it didn't work. So I tried it again, and it worked. So I got mine and put it in. It didn't work. So I tried again, but again it didn't work. I tried several more times, thinking that it will just work, but it never did. So I got Glenn's out and put his through. But during that time the train came, Paul and Glenn got on and off it went. Paul motioned to me that they would get off after one stop. I eventually got through and had to wait. When the train came, I got on, but the driver told everyone to get off because they were retiring this train too. Arg! So I waited and waited for the next train. Finally it came and I got and met up with Paul and Glenn at the next stop. Not many people were on the train, so I took the opportunity to take a picture of them on the metro train. This was one of the nicer, newer ones. Some are kind of old and gross...
We finally got home--around 11:30 and were tired. It was Saturday night and we still needed to shower and such for church tomorrow. While we were doing that, Glenn was playing with the air mattresses we bought for our beds. They are hard and we thought that maybe having these would help. Glenn happened to put his shirt on backward and with how he is positioned, it sort of looks like his head is on wrong! :D Well despite all the metro craziness, we had a great day
