December 31st was a fun day for us. We did many fun things around Austin, but first we had fun play-fighting with Glenn in the morning.
Glenn loved having his Spiderman suit! He wore the pajamas, donned the Batman mask from his Halloween costume, and wielded the sword and shield from the Sonnefelds in Spain. We all enjoyed battling with him.
That afternoon we went to the Texas State History Museum. As we were looking at the admission prices and talking with one of the information desk workers, he told us to hang on for a minute. When he came back, he had tickets for all us--no charge! Wait, what?! We were so surprised and said he didn't need to do that, but he said he wanted to. Alright, awesome! So we got to go to the museum for free!
The large floor mosaic was pretty interesting.
Glenn enjoyed the part about the Houston Space Center. He kept asking when he was going to go to the moon.
And the last thing we saw was this: "God Bless Texas!"
We then went to lunch at this little joint called Man Bites Dog. They had very interesting hot dog concoctions. We tried the Half-Smoke, the Hair of the Dog, and the Abe Froman.
Again, Glenn fell asleep while driving around. So when we stopped at Mount Bonnell to get a view of the city, I stayed in the car with Glenn while the others went to the view point. They saw Lake Austin, that looks like a river because it is long and narrow, beautiful homes along the river, and the Austin skyline.
We then drove around the downtown area and saw cool old homes and nice tall buildings. Then we went home and enjoyed the evening, snacking and playing games until ringing in the New Year at midnight! Glenn made it this time and was so excited to be with us. It was fun having people to celebrate with.
(Disclaimer: I look really fat in this pic because I am wearing two sweatshirts in addition to my other shirts. Austin was having a cold spell--and my parents thought they were escaping the cold of Utah!)
